Jan Richey and Tom Lamphere helped bring a joyful new space to life for dogs and their owners at Kaleidoscope Park in Frisco.

Happy FurEver Animal Rescue was at the heart of a special community celebration on Saturday, May 30, 2026, as dog lovers, local supporters, and Frisco residents gathered at Kaleidoscope Park for the ribbon cutting of the park’s newest dog park. Made possible through the sponsorship of Jan Richey and her husband, Tom Lamphere, the new space gives dogs a safe and joyful place to run, climb, explore, and play near The Star. The atmosphere was filled with wagging tails, smiling faces, and a shared appreciation for the special bond between people and their pets. While the dog park itself is a wonderful addition to the community, the story behind it is even more meaningful.
In a city known for thoughtful growth, beautiful public spaces, and family-friendly amenities, this new dog park adds something especially warm to the landscape. It gives pet owners a place to connect, gives dogs room to simply be dogs, and gives the community another reason to gather outdoors. More than a ribbon cutting, the event felt like a celebration of generosity, remembrance, and the lasting joy animals bring into our lives.
For Jan and Tom, supporting animals has never been about recognition. It has always been about creating opportunities for animals that deserve a second chance. Their journey into animal rescue began years ago on their 22-acre farm in Pilot Point, Texas. Originally purchased as a place for family gatherings, recreation, and peaceful weekends away from the city, the property slowly evolved into something much bigger as they found themselves increasingly involved in rescuing animals in need.
Long before Happy FurEver Animal Rescue officially existed, Jan and Tom were already helping coordinate rescue efforts across Texas. One of their earliest projects involved assisting in the rescue of dozens of neglected dogs and several cats from a small border town. As rewarding as that work was, it was a heartbreaking event in 2019 that ultimately inspired them to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal rescue. After rescuing several equine animals, including a beloved miniature pony named Happy, tragedy struck when Happy was killed during an unauthorized graduation party held at their property.

Determined to honor Happy’s memory, Jan and Tom founded Happy FurEver Animal Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption opportunities for animals facing uncertain futures. The rescue’s mission is simple yet powerful: to provide every animal with a safe and comfortable environment while helping them find the perfect forever home whenever possible. For animals that are elderly, medically fragile, or otherwise difficult to place, the rescue offers something equally important: a permanent sanctuary where they can live out their lives surrounded by care and compassion.
What began as a tribute to one special pony has grown into a lifeline for countless animals throughout North Texas. Happy’s story is woven into every part of the organization, from the animals rescued and rehabilitated to the community spaces that now carry the Happy FurEver name. The dog park at Kaleidoscope Park serves as a public reminder of that legacy, turning loss into something loving, useful, and joyful for families and pets throughout Frisco.

A key part of Happy FurEver Animal Rescue’s success is Carl Hill, the rescue’s full-time manager and trainer. Originally from Northern Ireland, Carl brings a lifetime of experience working with both horses and dogs. His background as a jockey and animal trainer has made him an invaluable part of the organization, and many affectionately refer to him as the rescue’s Irish Animal Whisperer. Through patience, consistency, and an extraordinary understanding of animal behavior, Carl helps many rescue dogs build confidence, trust, and the skills they need to thrive in their future homes.
His work is not only about training. It is about helping animals feel safe again, especially those who have experienced neglect, fear, or uncertainty before arriving at the rescue. Carl’s steady presence and connection with the animals is part of what makes Happy FurEver so special. At the ribbon cutting, seeing him with one of the rescue dogs was a sweet reminder that behind every adoption story is daily care, quiet patience, and a deep commitment to helping animals heal.

The new dog park at Kaleidoscope Park reflects many of the same values that drive the mission behind Jan and Tom’s rescue work. It creates a place where dogs can enjoy freedom, exercise, and companionship while strengthening the connection between pets and their owners. The park’s gently rolling terrain and open green spaces offer a unique environment for play and exploration, making it a destination that local residents and visitors alike can enjoy. It is more than just a dog park, it is a gathering place that celebrates community, wellness, and the joy that animals bring into our lives.
