Mission of the Month: Handbags for Hope

March is full of wonderful celebrations – One of them celebrating International Women’s Day. This month, we are going to focus on women in our community by donating new handbags to women who are seeking safety in our local domestic abuse shelters.   These shelters protect and educate women from all nationalities and socio-economic backgrounds.

Handbags for Hope and was created by local Plano resident, Diane Hopson.   While a new handbag does not remedy domestic abuse, it’s an essential tool to encourage women as they look for dignity and self-confidence.

Before Easter or Mother’s Day these handbags will be delivered to Hope’s Door in Collin County and possibly Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas.

Handbags are both fun and simple to shop for.  Donations requested are:

• A new handbag~please no “gently”-used. (Target, JC Penny, Kohl’s, & Sam Moon offer stylish handbags perfect for daily life styles and interviewing.) You may leave the tag on the purse.  Because domestically abused women frequently live a life of chaos and uncertainty, they will benefit from items listed below – items that help them be organized.   Please Consider these items to include in your handbag:

• A wallet
• A purse-size planner and pen
• Shadow & blush compact – lipstick – mascara
• Clear nail polish & nail file
• Feminine hygiene items
• Purse-size pack of tissues
• Socks
• Sunglasses
• Toothbrush/Toothpaste
• Gum and Mints
• USB drive
• Accessory items such as jewelry & scarves
• Umbrella
• Toiletry items  (Travel or sample size only please)
• Gift card (e.g. Wal-Mart, Target, JC Penny’s)
• Please do not include any medications such as Advil, Tylenol etc.

Please deliver donations by Tuesday, March 28 to our office: The Jan Richey Team, Keller Williams office (4783 Preston Road, Frisco, TX  75034).  At the office, please knock on our doors at the back of the building (left or middle door).

For your convenience, feel free to ship donations via Amazon.com or any other website.  (If you choose to ship items, we request that you please ship to my office).
