Water Bills Increase for North Dallas Residents

by Tracy Hookstra | September 2, 2015

Have you noticed an increase in your water bill lately? If so, you aren’t the only one! Many residents in North Dallas have seen a spike in their monthly water costs, some doubling and even tripling from this time last year. So, why the huge jump after months and months of strict water conservation? An August Dallas Morning News article says it is all because of a series of rate increases over the past several years. New infrastructure in the area has forced the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) to raise its rates for its 13 members including Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano. The major new projects include a $1 billion Lower Bois D’Arc Creek Reservoir, the first reservoir to be built in Texas in three decade, a $100 million pump station for the Trinity River and dredging projects for Lakes Lavon and Chapman. NTMWD residents should prepare for continued increases in the neighborhood of 10% over the next several years.
